Securicare, a Westguard Services Limited Company, is a separate company focused on the unique needs and demanding world of healthcare protection.  This organization was implemented as a way of supporting our clients within healthcare who will benefit from a separate identity with increased focus on the operations and training requirements particular to the healthcare industry. This trend-setting initiative has allowed Securicare to more clearly identify ourselves in the market and assist in attracting healthcare security professionals to our company.

Securicare was developed in conjunction with a prominent healthcare protection professional Jeff Young, CHPA, CPP who  developed healthcare specific recruitment and selection processes and healthcare training programs tailored after the International Association for Healthcare Security & Safety (IAHSS), a patient constant/sitter specific training module.

As the primary security provider to BC healthcare providing contracted security services to three of BC’s six health regions, Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA), Interior Health Services Authority (IHSA) and the Vancouver Island Health Authority (VIHA),. Securicare brings with it unsurpassed healthcare knowledge and experience.

Westguard History

Westguard Services Ltd. was purchased in 1992 by Darcy R. Kernaghan, the original and only President of Securiguard Services Ltd. Darcy had learned the workings of the security industry assisting in his father’s companies, Kernaghan Adjusters and World Investigation Service, and brought energy, professionalism and continued growth to both Securiguard, created in 1974, and then Westguard Services thereafter.

Over two decades later, Darcy remains Westguard's President and Chief Executive Officer and, from our corporate offices in downtown Vancouver, directs the key activities of a staff numbering over 300 and the operations of the company which now extend through Western Canada.

Along with the expansion of the company came a growth in our reputation and service capabilities and today, Westguard Services remains at the forefront of many security initiatives keeping pace with technological advancements and evolving demands of both local and global challenges.

With many awards of distinction for service and innovation, Westguard continues to pursue improvements and enhancements that keep us on the leading edge of security innovation. At the same time, we pride ourselves on our tradition of professionalism and customer service at every level from our control centre operators, guards, and mobile patrol to our account managers, protection specialists and executive team.
